A farmer-led network of people's organizations, non-government organizations and scientists working towards the sustainable use and management of biodiversity through farmers' control of genetic and biological resources, agricultural production and associated knowledge.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Education and training enables the network members to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes that would make them and their organizations better equipped to sustain MASIPAG's program and activities. On-farm trainings are based on needs analysis and respond to the farmers' actual situation. The actual involvement and participation of the NGOs and the scientists/researchers who are network members are part of the process of their education and training the MASIPAG way.

MASIPAG's primary concern is to involve the farmers in all aspects of development that will help uplift themselves. The training of farmer-trainers is emphasized so as to maximize the impact of training and resources used. In the process, the knowledge and skills are transferred from one farmer organization to another and from one farmer-trainer to another.

The farmers' education and training usually takes the form of on-farm training, seminars, workshops and fieldwork, cross-visits and are conducted to help broaden awareness, impart technical knowledge and know-how and develop the ability of trainees to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate local programs/projects and eventually make them more capable and responsible leaders.
