All Leaders' Conference: Developing servant-leaders

More than 80 PMCB and RPMT leaders from 18 provinces of the three island regions attended the MASIPAG All Leaders' Conference in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental last April 27-30, 2006. The leaders shared their experiences in the different facets of leadership and life in the organization. They proved that the strength and stability of MASIPAG rests on the diligence and commitment of the PO, PCB and RPMT.

The theme of the conference is "Solid leadership: Key to a continuous movement towards change" which aims to further strengthen MASIPAG and the member organizations, especially the POs and Provincial Consultative Body.

Arthur Jurada (BUSAFO, No. Cotabato), Estelita Bamo (DASMPC, Iloilo) and Lucio Gurango (COFAR, Quezon) shared their experiences on the impact of the MASIPAG in their lives and in the community; Bernardo Quitos (Nueva Vizcaya), Jojo Paglumotan (Negros Occ.) and Precioso Tapitan (Zamboanga del Sur) likewise shared their experiences in establishing their PCB. Nonoy Florendo (PDG, Negros Occ), Joffrey Frinal (PALAI, So. Cotabato) and Modesto Layno (PLAN, Isabela) discussed some approaches on how to manage and resolve organizational conflicts while resource mobilization and allocation was discussed by Isidro Genol (KABASAKAN, Negros Occ.), Jun Adorable (MFMPC, Surigao del Sur) at Manuel Lacanlale (SVPCC, Nueva Vizcaya). The diverse nature of member POs of MASIPAG was shared by Noel Salazar (Cluster Coordinator,MASMIN), Renato Gonzales (SDIFMPC, Iloilo) at Andres Condat (GBP, Pangasinan).

The vision, mission, goals and strategies of MASIPAG were reviewed and discussed. The strength and weaknesses of the POs and the leaders were also assessed and they enumerated some recommendations to strengthen the leadership and the organization. A farmer-leaders' code of commitment was prepared which leaders promised to comply and obey.

Mandy Felicia of IBON Foundation gave some insights about servant leadership, where leaders who long to help also learn and be comfortable with their work because of their dedication. He also discussed the different processes within the organization, like conflict management, financial and human resources management and others.
